Tai ji quan (T'ai chi ch'uan)
T'ai Chi Ch'uan is a slow-motion form of Chinese martial arts done for health, longevity, relaxation, stress reduction, and general wellbeing.  It is a soft and gentle form of exercise for all ages which builds inner strength and order.
T'ai Chi with relaxation and stress reduction techniques: T'ai chi practice is offered in combination with basic self-acupressure and relaxation techniques for improved health and well-being.  Classes open and close with the relaxation and stress reduction techniques with the rest of class time devoted to T'ai Chi practice.
T'ai Chi classes with calligraphy:  T'ai Chi practice is also offered in combination with Chinese calligraphy practice, brush and ink on rice paper. The two practices complement each other and extend one's exploration of qi ("chee"), or inner energy.
For further reflection on the T'ai Chi movements,
positions and rhythm, there will be a video available for purchase of Cai's demonstrations. Click on the icon at the right to view a clip from this video. To order a copy of the video, contact the Cultural Center.

Note: The spelling of 'taijiquan' is the current phonetic (Pinyin) notation and is pronounced "tie-jee-chwann." It is sometimes spelled, "t'ai chi ch'uan" according to the older Wade Giles phonetic notation. Even so, the 'chi' of t'ai-chi' is pronounced 'jee', whereas 'chee' would spelled qi.
Asian Cultural Center of Vermont also offers T'ai Chi with T'ai Chi sword work. Classes are for teens and adults. T'ai Chi sword is also an element of the summer camp program for ages 6 to 12.  Click on the icon on the right to view a clip from a video of Cai demonstrating t'ai chi sword work.
