Ruz, Persian for 'new day,' has been observed for thousands
of years by the ancient cultures of Iran (Persia), and is celebrated
by many of the republics in Central Asia and the Caucasus. No
Ruz is a celebration of hope, promise and good fortune, a time
to have fun and share joy with friends, family, and neighbors. The
bowl of live Goldfish, representing life and the end of the Persian
year, is one element of many in the elaborate spread (sofreh)
around which family, friends and neighbors gather to celebrate.
In the Persian language, the writing says: saal-e no mobarak,
which is, “Happy New Year!” |
